Why Register & Protect Trademarks?

If you don’t register and protect your brand, you won’t be able to sleep peacefully. Be warned.

Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), such as trademarks, designs and patents are a key driver of innovation and creativity. They allow businesses, authors, artists, designers, inventors and other creators to benefit when others use their creations and inventions.

The main function of these rights is to protect and stimulate the development and distribution of new products and the provision of new services based on the creation and exploitation of inventions, trademarks, designs, creative content or other intangible assets.

Companies that own IPRs perform better in economic terms; they have more employees, pay higher wages and generate more revenue per employee. They also have more opportunities to export their products.

The number of trademark applications worldwide grew from 3,342,900 in 2009 to 13,928,200 in 2021. A growth that quadrupled in a decade and confirms the increasingly widespread interest in registering and protecting trademarks.

Do most people really know what a trademark and its IP (Intellectual Property) protection is and how important it is?

Strong protection of intellectual property rights:

– Stimulates innovation, creativity and job creation.

– Converts innovative ideas, creative designs and other intangible assets into valuable commercial assets.

– Is integral to the rule of law and good governance

– Promotes public health and safety by combating counterfeit goods

Do businesses realize the importance of intellectual property protection?

Registering a trademark gives you exclusive rights to distinctive signs, such as names, logos, colors, images, patterns, shapes, product packaging or sounds, that identify your products and distinguish your products or services from others.

Your brand is part of your intellectual property and is crucial to your success as a business. And for that we must value the investment in a brand.

On World Intellectual Property Day we want to share about how intellectual property contributes to the development of our economies while driving human progress.

At TOTEM Branding we are proud to have Andy Stalman contribute to these goals in his role as Advisory Director of the Board of the International Trademark Association (INTA) https://www.inta.org/.

And we want to celebrate the importance of registration, trademark protection and intellectual property, because it is clear to us that when innovation, creativity and companies generate and register their intangible assets, we all win.
